1. what makes this story news worthy?
The Color of Money and Five to 1 margin is news worthy for many reason. First, how the information was obtained. The newspapers used the federal Freedom of Inforamtion Act to obtain the information on computer tape from the federal government, which complies it from lenders' reports. Second, how corrupt companies still exist.
2. Could it have been done without the aid of the computer?
Yes, it could have been done without the aid of an computer because Bill Dedman and his associates could have interviewed the different institutions.
3. What would have made the story better?
I feel the story is best as is there is nothing that could have made it any better.

I agree with you, this is a prime example of how bills passed by Congress can back fire on them and that alone makes a great news story. I like the format in which you presented your reaction.
ReplyDeleteI like your response if it was not for the Freedom of Information Act I do not think that this report would have been possible.
ReplyDeleteWell-written response. This kind of practice is makes the banks and big companies look bad to the public eye. It's sad that the banks would even consider doing something like that.
